All NewsTournamentsClub Champs Day Two

April 30, 20140

Tuesday was the quietest day, tidying up a few loose ends as most of the events got down to the quarter-final stages.
SP_3233Comedy moment was Steve Brown’s first-ever game of racketball, the Brown Bomber‘s pathetic attempts to batter the big ball into submission the way he does at squash drawing hoots of laughter from the packed gallery.  To be fair he got better, and went through as Richard Ruthless retired at the end of the second game, out of breath from laughing so much.
Brown bombed out of the O45 event too, losing a thrilling five-setter to John Walsh. Two tough squash defeats in two days left the Bomber suitably unimpressed: “As the club’s leading O35 player I’m terribly disappointed – to say the least –  to have gone out of two events so early. I think I was shafted by the referees at the end of both matches, not that I’m bitter or anything.
“I’ll just have to get some racketball practice in now, as it’s unthinkable that I could come away from this week without a trophy,” added Brown.
Meanwhile the official Paparazzi were also disappointed with the night’s work, with many players and spectators puzzlingly reluctant to be captured.
“We’re nothing if not professional,” said an agency representative, “so we managed to make what we think is a pretty impressive gallery from some undeniably poor raw material. We just hope the players and spectators are more amenable in the next few days as there’s only so many shots like these we can get away with …”
Action continues on Wednesday  from 18.00, with Thursday set to be the busiest day, then it’s Doubles on Friday with semis and finals over the weekend.
