The final day of action in the 2012 edition of the Northumbria Junior Open saw the U15 and U19 Champions crowned (the U13 and U17 events were being held over at Jesmond) and included one home victor.
Second seed Mari Taylor beat top seed Grace Gear 3/0 in the G15 final, while Tynemouth’s own Lucy Beecroft, after surviving a five-game semi-final earlier in the day, also won 3/0 in the G19 final.
Local hero Jamie Todd, who also had his fans’ hearts beating as he scraped through his quarter and semi-finals both 3/2, couldn’t pull it out one last time as he went down 3/0 to Oliver Harris in the B15 final.
The B19 final was a high-quality affair which saw second seed Angus Gillams come from two games down – and 2-6 down in the fourth – to take the title.
